West Haven is a lower-class, coastal city in Connecticut. It’s the armpit between the culturally and educationally rich urban city of New Haven to the east and the summer vacationer’s party town of Milford to the west.

The shoreline at Bradley Point is among West Haven’s few points of interest. The sandy beach is groomed and numerous breakers prevent erosion, but they also prevent healthy circulation of the water, which is dark and murky with silt and pollution, so it’s not an appealing place to swim.

Some of the houses were once attractive, but most of the architecture is plain. A lot of the sidewalks are in dire need of repair and noise is a constant issue for those who are willing to traverse them. Revving engines, city busses, car stereos blasting rap and hipidy-hop at full volume, and passing Metro-North trains (which stop only in the neighboring towns) obliterate any chance for serenity and quiet.
