Wenzel Circular Walk
Wenzel Circular Walk Luxembourg Reviews
The thing to do in this fortified city if you're short on time May 01, 2016
The Wenzel walk is a 3km loop that takes around 1.5 hours and encompasses all of this fortified city's history. "1000 years in 100 minutes" as they tout it - the path is well marked and goes around the forts through the Casemates, and then down to the Grund or the "newer" part of this town. There is a public lift that takes people from the upper part (or "Old Town") to the lower ("The Grund").
My highlight was definitely walking the Grund - especially if you're lucky to roam on a sunny Sunday when there's festivities and food and a lot of banter. I even saw a rock show!
The brochure provided in the tourist office is very helpful, a lot more than the signs on and information boards on the trail as they've been vandalised and ruined over time.
The oft-repeated cliche about Luxembourg City is that it's got nothing to see and do. Whilst I won't argue vehemently on that subject, I will say that this is an exception. It's a bonafide attraction that's been restored and made into a tourist attraction. Regardless of how long you stay in the City, be sure to walk the Wenzel. It's wenzelful!
I've posted photos of the walk in the journal entry this review is linked to.
