Wendover Overview

Wendover, Utah is on the western border of Utah along I-80. The town consists of cheap motels along the main road and the Wendover airfield. The airfield was used for training during WWII for bomber pilots including the crew of the Enola Gay. At one point the base had 20,000 inhabitants. Now the airfield has been turned over to the community and has a small museum that includes the plane that was used in the movie "Con Air".

The Bonneville Salt Flats are a few miles to the northeast of Wendover, where land-speed records are set and races run. West Wendover, adjacent to Wendover, has 5 casinos, restaurants, and a concert hall. Gambling is not legal in Utah, but many residents of the Salt Lake City area find their way about an hour west to gamble in Nevada.
