i went here based on a foodie friend's recommendation and was told there would be excellent meat to be had.
so, i braved the whipping winds of and snow flurries falling on chicago on this cold winter day. the service was friendly and prompt. good sign. didn't like the smoking inside but this should not be an issue come january 1, 2008 when the state's ban on smoking inside restaurants and bars takes effect. i had a combo meal: pulled pork over white bread and baby back ribs. the combo also came with cornbread, beans and slaw. i paired it with the woop woop shiraz. the baby back ribs was very good. i enjoyed the smokey goodness and it was very lean and meaty. it did not fall off the bone but it was pretty damn yummy. the bbq sauce also had a nice tanginess. the pulled pork, on the other hand, was disappointing. i guess i expected more -- it wasn't warm enough, and it also was not so tender. the beans - i am really not a fan of beans but this was good. apparently, it's got jim beam bourbon. the coleslaw -- this was more pickled tasting. i am glad it was not drenched in mayo, like most slaws. i enjoyed the cornbread. it was moist, sweet and came in a generous portion. i was very happy with the cornbread. the shiraz went well with the meat. overall, this place is good. it could have been loads better but for the pulled pork. i expected to be blown away. oh well.

Went to Chicago in February because my friend Devon was having Spring Break or something, and her aunt and uncle live right outside the city in Hinsdale. We drove there...eight hours of snow, ice, accidents and a ton of Starbucks coffee. Yum!

Brian and I got up early and headed downstairs and hit the street looking for Starbucks coffee. We did not have to go very far at all. I got an ice coffee and he got hot chocolate. We met up with everyone else back at the hotel about fourty five min…… Chicago!! Day 2 |
