Weather in Santiago Chile

Time to travel is their Summer December to Late February. The air is fine in Summer, but in Winter. MY GOD! It has been foggy and penetrating damp the tree times I have came over from the Argentine, Mendoza side in the Winter.
First time in Santiago it was Summer, and it was spectacular, where was this hoorible air quality people talked about? 21 days of faboulosity. BUT in the Winter... Brrrr... and the air gets horrible.

ALSO THE AIRFARE to cross the Andes from Mendoza to catch your international flight is steep! That pass gets snowed in, and all busses are stopped in Mendoza. It happened to us.
I am not a city person, but Santiago had it's charm for me, in Summer.

The smog in Santiago can be bad. But this week, in early winter, the weather has been good. You can see some haze but the view east down the many streets to the imposing views of the Andes takes your breath away-the air is fine. Snow capped peaks so close to the city are amazing, especially when one is used to ocean views. People who enjoyed Queenstown, New Zealand will like Santiago!
