With a population well below 3,000, Watkins Glen is surprsingly small for a village so well know. Perhaps the town's biggest claim to fame lies with its being the home of Watkins Glen Grand Prix, one of the world's finest racing tracks, hosting road racing in all forms from Formula One to NASCAR and beyond. However, another chunk of the population acknowledges Watkins Glen because of its rock festivals - a tradition begun by the massive "Summer Jam" in 1973.
