The Waterfront Lodge & Backpackers was a great place to stay in Napier. It is located on Marine Parade in walking distance to shops, restaurants, the National Aquarium, and iCenter. A shared dorm room costs $25 NZD per night and you could get private rooms for a little more. The rooms had portable heaters (which was awesome after staying in non-insulated houses for a week) The shared bathrooms were clean and there is a large kitchen with storage bins to keep your food in and heaps of cooking utensils and free coffee and tea. There is a tv lounge, internet, phone, and very friendly and helpful staff! If you are looking for budget accomodation in Napier, this is the place to go!!

I am always drinking NZ wines back home so naturally, I had to go and experience the awesome wineries of the Hawke's Bay region while on the north island. From Hamilton I went to the bus station and caught an InterCity bus to Napier.
