 Fun powerful beachbreak Jul 21, 2007
"Waterfalls", a name that Dave ("buffetrand") came up with, is about an hour's hike south of Punta Banco. Punta Banco was getting pretty mushy, so we trekked along the beach looking for an alternative. Plus, where else are you going to be able to surf next to a WATERFALL??
To get here, you have to cross a section of the coast only passable during low tide. Basically, at high tide the water runs right against the beach/cliffs/rocks, so you won't be able to get past a section of the beach unless it's low tide. Plan your trip there AND back accordingly, or you might get stuck on the other side... After crossing the low tide area, you'll pass some caves and then come to a long stretch of sandy beach. You should see a waterfall to your left, and straight off that point, if the swell is hitting, there should be a nice, barreling beach break with a lot of power. One of the rare spots around here that we found with a sandy bottom. Bring a first aid kit and water, as you will be pretty far from civilization should something go wrong. I guess I thought it was funny at the time or more possibly it was because we actually did go off to one of the big waterfalls that day and also the sink outside my bed room really is very leaky.

When I got to the waterfall I soon realised I was not the only person to have such an original idea. Hanging out in a waterfall is never going to be a bad thing. A great way to unwind, not that I needed to unwind, but still it was great… Sun Rise, Sun Set |

Tomorrow is a trip to the waterfall, two hours walk south on the beach. Rock pool shower, washing your hair by waterfall as the Squirrel monkeys look on from the canopy above. Pancakes for breakfast.
