Water Grill Los Angeles Reviews
fancy seafood place in downtown Mar 17, 2008
Water grill is known for its seafood offings for the business crowd. However, the food does not quite match the astronomical price.
to be fair, the service is impeccable. the staff is formal yet friendly. they will take your coat, validate parking (for a discount), provide seemingly knowledgable recommendations, etc.
the bread was warm and good but not anything to write home about. the sourdough roll and the olive bread were average.
for the appetizer, i had the dungeness crab with the louis sauce. this was basically the crab taken out of the shell (not fried) with some sauce and veggies. the crab was chilled. it did not "wow" me.
i also had the big eye tuna that was lightly seared and mostly raw with couscous on the side. it wa fine, and again, did not really impress.
for dessert, we shared a chocolate and peanut butter cake that came with marshmallow and popcorn. it was topped with banana ice cream. not too sweet or overhweling. again, nothing great.
we also shared a red velvet chocolate with vanilla ice cream and fresh raspberries. again, nothing great.
the bill came to about $115 each (where my friends had the following appetizers: oyster and white chowder; and the following entrees: big eye tuna and striped bass. we also shared a bottle of wine and had coffee, an espresso and a glass of port).
i probably would check out other places before coming back here.
