Watching cabaret at Mountmartre for 1000 euros? Paris Reviews
Watching cabaret at Mountmartre for 1000 euros May 26, 2013
well, since there is no right choice when i am trying to write this tips, so i just use this section.
Actually this is not about tips, just a warning for anyone who wanna have trip to Paris.
last april i went to Paris with my friends, actually this is teh 3rd visit, the previous one is in May 2006.
amazingly, I thought compare to roma, paris is more safe when we talk about scam or pickpocket.
but maybe because europe suffered from economical crisis, so there are more pickpocket at some tourist objects and also scam.
The first one is one of my friend, he is doctorate in Economic from Univ at rochelle in France, but he is Indonesian, just got job offer from Sorbonne univ, he stayed at Mountmartre.
This is the first time he stayed at Mountmartre area, usually at Paris near Eiffel area. Some people, including my sister who already live at ile-de-France said Mountmartre is kind of red light district so everyone especially asian people like us must be careful.
At evening he wants to walk around sacre coeur (basilica) and the area behind that church. There are folk of japanese and korean tourist standing at the street watching cabaret.
he then stop to watch for a while. after couple minutes, the cabaret indirectly guide the spectators to enter a building near where they stood. Some people go walk with the folk, including my friend.
At the building the waitress offer drink, vodka, he refuse politely in French because he is muslim, he ask a glass of orange juice. after 20s minutes watching the performance, then he ask for bill, then he abruptly shock, 400 euros for ONE glass of orange??? he lived in France for about 5 years since he studied at postgraduate program till doctorate.
He know exactly all prices in France.
He tried to explain bla bla bla in his fluently French but the big man want to punch him (and my friend is small Indonesian man) and put knife near his neck.
He then pay 400 euro with credit card. Yes! they accept credit card.
Then here it comes another bill, 600 euro for the cabaret!!! again he tried to defend his self and refuse to pay it, but it only make the Big man get mad. well, since he cant karate or silat, he then again pay 600 euro for crab cabaret (at least moulin rouge not that expensive)
My friend very shock and he got trauma , he didnt wanna see paris again. then back to work at world bank Indonesia.
have you ever experience this?
Another scam that I ever experience at paris, this April is there are some girls (i guess immigrant from eastern europe) approaches me with paper on her hand and ask "Do you speak english?"
If you respond, at the end she asks some money 5 or 10 euros.
Another scam is my friend approach by old lady who claim found gold ring near her, then she offer the ring to my friend as a gift, but she ask 20 euros, then my friend talk to her, "Mom, if you sell the ring, you will get money more than 20 euro, why you have to give it to me?"
have a safe and nice trip
