Beautiful paintings Apr 04, 2010
Built in the nineteenth century, Wat Pahouak is a wonderful Buddhist temple that gives the strong impression that it has been around for much longer. Inside, the paintings are remarkably well-preserved when one considers the heat and humidity they endure. Just before the temple, there are always a few sellers that will sell flowers (and possibly incense) as an offering. However, these might be targeted towards the tourists rather than genuine worshippers, as few of the local people seem to come here. Still the temple is rather small and doesn’t take long at all to go around. The scenes are very detailed and considering this is Laos, there isn’t some highly detailed fact sheet or information board on show. Nonetheless, the paintings were very enjoyable to look at and I’m glad I stopped off here.
