The original home of the Emerald Buddha May 11, 2015
This temple was built in Lanna style in 1441. The 91 metre Pagoda was destroyed during the 16th or 17th century leaving only half the height. Nonetheless, much of the temple grounds are being restored with replica statues put in place. It was the original home to the very famous Emerald Buddha which is now housed in the Grand Palace in Bangkok. The main attraction to this temple now is the city pillar enshrined in a small building. When we were there, there was a display of the 12 animals of the Chinese zodiac around the temples ground. There is also a temple which is in greyish/ black colour which i find unique & it houses the mummified monks in glass encase.
