Smoky and noisy in Casablanca Mar 02, 2009
Staying here was not my choice but picked by the tour company.
The hotel is located in central Casablanca on a very busy street. The hotel from the outside and the lobby looks pleasant enough but the rooms and restaurant were dingy and dated. I stayed here on two occasions at the beginning and end of my tour and both occasions was not impressed. There are no "no smoking" rooms and cigarette smoke came into my room through the vents from other rooms and the bar downstairs. The hotel sits on a busy street and as drivers in Casablanca like to use their horns it is not very quiet. The restaurant did serve breakfast but it was nothing special. Besides the bar downstairs there is also a jazz bar on the top floor which was nicely decorated compared to the rest of the hotel - though the drinks seemed expensive. The railway station, medina and Hassan II mosque are short taxi rides away. There is a supermarket, plenty of restaurants and cafes and a McDonald's all within walking distance. After dark is best not to walk alone in the neighborhood but there are plenty of the petit taxis available. The staff at the hotel is OK but not very friendly. Not one of them broke a smile though they did help give directions and answer questions when needed. For the first night I paid $50 through the tour company. The second night I booked through Orbitz and paid $80. It was my last night in Morocco and I stayed here purely because I knew what to expect and knew the area. I would not choose to stay here again if I was to return to Casablanca. |
