Warung Kopi Phoenam Makassar Reviews
Classic and vintage Coffee Shop in Makassar Dec 31, 2010
Established in 1946, Warung Kopi Phoenam is located at the Jampea Street, the Chinatown of Makassar, South Sulawesi. You should not expect a nice and a cozy coffee shop that offers fancy beverages, but you should definitely expect a good coffee with a very good toast.
It was a usual morning for people in Makassar, they were chitchatting in Phoenam and enjoying their breakfast. We ordered coffee with milk, toast with kaya, and toast with corned beef and cheese, and also half-boiled eggs. Although we had tried toasts for so many hundred times in different places, but toast in Phoenam was something great.
The bread was still puffy, yet toasted, with the rich kaya jam spreaded in it (kaya jam: sweet coconut egg jam). The corned beef and melted cheese in the puffy toasted bread was also a great choice of breakfast.
There was nothing can complete a good breakfast other than a good coffee. The coffee with condensed milk in Phoenam was a perfect choice. It was not too sweet or too bitter. We could still taste the dark roasted coffee, complemented with the right amount of milk in Phoenam. It was good.
So, if you happen to be around Makassar area and look for a place with a good coffee and a reasonable price, you should try Warung Kopi Phoenam at Jampea Street (beside Hotel Yasmin).
According to them, they have opened branches in Jakarta and Bandung too, exciting!
