The perfect way to travel around Warsaw Jul 22, 2008
Buses in Warsaw are cheap and easy to use. Completely something else as the messy public transport in Krakow, here things are sorted out nicely. The main city maps have the most important lines marked, as well as the bus stops. At each stop the hours of arrival and departure are marked clearly and buses ride perfectly on time.
Tickets can be bought in advance in kiosks, bars or hotels. There are several types of tickets, for long and short distances, single trips or multiple trips. If you stay in the center of Warsaw, a short distance ticket is enough though. We were also sold a short distance ticket to reach the airport, so I guess long distance tickets are hardly ever needed by tourists. One card is about 2,80 zloty. Don't forget to validate it ones you get on board, by putting it in one of the yellow machines. I don't know if it is possible to buy a ticket on board of the bus as well... The main bus line starts in the north of Warsaw, at the upper end of the old town, and rides all the way down to the Wilanow palace. Almost every important sight can be reached using this line. There a side cut of this main route that goes to the airport. This trip will take about 20 minutes. Buses are clean and comfortable, and usually not over crowded. By far the easiest way of transport around Warsaw! Part of the Poland 2008 travel blog |

It is a very big deal here in Poland, with special buses added on every route, just to get people to the cemeteries. I managed to find my way to the most famous cemetery in Warsaw, the Powaski cemetery. There must have been thousands of Poles out placing candles on the graves and visiting… All Saints Day in Warsa |

Having had no sleep and having spent enough nights and days on long haul buses, I knew that it was not going to be a pleasant ride, I mean, who really wants to spend 12 hours cooped up like a bird in a cage? But, I didn’t anticipate exactly how bad it was going to be, did I?
