Wanaka Vacation Guide
Wanaka is a small resort town on New Zealand's South Island. It was settled during the gold rush of the 19th century. The town sits on the south edge of Lake Wanaka and is surrounded by the beautiful mountain scenery.
With some of New Zealand's best ski fields (Treble Cone, Cardrona, The Remarkables, Coronet Peak) within easy driving distance, Wanaka is a must-see for anyone who likes snow sports. However the town attracts many during the summer season too because of the hiking trails in the mountains and water sports on the lake.
The center of town is a small collection of cafes, restaurants, a few bars, ski rentals, a playground and an information centre. Wanaka has lots of accomodation including backpackers. Favourite attractions of regular Wanaka visitors are Puzzling World, Cinema Paradiso and the annual Warbirds Over Wanaka airshow.

Next stop with the Green Kiwi Express: Wanaka. A beautiful but rather small laketown on New Zealand's South Island, but the one stop I had been waiting for since I arrived in Christchurch. I had a mission in Wanaka, a dream to fullfill: to fly an airplane.
My first flying experience was when I was…
