Every year in may it is the same story, kids are travelling right to berlin, just checking the riots. It is a tradition for over 19years now, where police and the youth meeting each other and play their game. This all happening on the last day of april (the so called "Walpurgisnacht") and on may the first. If you young and hip, then you probaly stay in a hostel in berlin friedrichshain. One of the yuppy places to be. Its cheap, there are lots of pubs and yes, you can see funny guys wearing green uniforms. This year the whole thing was more a party than a riot. A lot of bands played on a small stage for free. All streets were closed for cars and something around 2000 people where sitting, drinking and enjoying the music. It was really great. Do not trust the german press - nobody was hurting a police man an no police man was hurting anyone. They were mostly hanging around in corners ;) All in all it is a real great party with punkrock music for free and a lot of funny people hanging around. So, if you got the chance, visit berlin on the last day of april in friedrichshain. If you wanna see some burning garbage can, stay one day longer and check kreuzberg. there are much more stupid kids, who burning down there own quarter.
