We enjoy staying at old pubs with character, the Wakatu is very central, has plenty of budget accomadation with a good breakfast thrown in for the $60 a night double. There is tea and coffee available at all times from a central point upstairs, rather than in each room, quite nice as you can sometimes meet others getting their coffee and have a chat.
There is also an excellent bistro and cafe, plus lots of poker machines! Also a Cobb and Co resturant is attached, for good quick substantual meals. One thing that can be a problem with this hotel is the noise from the Night Clubs across the road, the bands play very loudly and keep on doing so until about 3am on Friday and Saturday nights, and at least til Midnight on mid week nights, we quite like hearing the fun and laughter on the streets late at night, but it does keep you awake. |

Only two of us carried on from the old bus to nelson so had to do the whole making new friends things again. The hostel in Nelson was very nice and seemed more like a hotel where we had another nice roast dinner with apple crumble for dessert.
