Waipahu Vacation Guide

Waipahu, Hawaii is located on the island of Oahu west of Honolulu and Pearl Harbor. Waipahu has been the service center for the central agriculture area of Oahu and had a huge sugar cane processing mill which has now been partially dismantled and partially converted into office and shop space. Until the mill closed in 1995 Waipahu was known locally known as a sugar plantation town.

The word Waipahu is derived from two Hawaiian words meaning artesian spring, wai, meaning water, and pahū, meaning "burst or gush forth". The early Hawaiians took pleasure in the clear, cool water gushing from the ground. At one time in pre-westerner history, Waipahu was considered the capitol of Oahu.
