Waimea Vacation Guide
Waimea is a small community located at the North Shore on Oahu. Waimea, which means "red water," is the place to find Waimea Bay and Waimea Falls.
Waimea Bay is home to multiple surf competitions in the winter season when waves can reach heights of 30 to 50 feet. The most famous competition is the Quiksilver Big Wave Invitational which is held at the Bay only on the condition that waves are expected to reach at least 20 feet. For this reason, the competition has only been held seven times. During the summer months the Bay is calm and is open to many water junkies such as snorkelers, scuba divers, and even rock jumpers.
Across from the Bay is the Waimea Park which holds beauty behind its gates. This pristine garden is full of wildlife, everything from flowers, to towering trees, to endangered species. Tucked in the back of the park is Waimea Falls. This park is a conservation area for such local tropical species.

We continued on Kamehameha Hwy along the coast of the North Shore. To the left was the ultra-blue ocean with frothy white lipped waves crashing on the shore. Above us was an endless blue sky with tufts of fluffy clouds that seemed to threaten rain but were fortunately benign. To t…

It was a rather warm day with almost constant rainfall but that didn't damper our adventurous spirits. It is a three day weekend for the state of Hawaii with Monday being King Kamehameha Day. We had yet to visit Waimea besides the occasional drive by on our way to another place so we decided to go …

On July 5, 2008 some friends (including fellow TravBuddy- Doccollier)and I dove the North Shore of Oahu. What a great place to go when the waves are not enormous. It is amazing what is below the surface when the emphasis is not on the great surfing.
