Per Waihi Beach Lodge e-mails and website, all inferences “Beach Suite”, “decks to watch the sea from”, “beach is a very short stroll from the door”, even the name Waihi Beach Lodge would lead one to believe that Waihi Beach Lodge is on the beach. Even the letter head on their response gives the connotation of water.

In actuality you have to cross busy State Highway 2, walk several hundred yards down a dirt road, then over a huge sand dune, then another hundred yards to get to the water. In fact the surf was not even visible from the lodge where we were standing talking with the owners.

When we expressed our views we were told by one of the owners, Ali "it’s obvious you're not going to be happy here so I suggest you leave" in a very angry tone. We did leave as requested but got charged for two days, even though we paid for two days accomodations at other places. We were quite shocked by the treatment as we've traveled the world and have never been treated so badly.

We would suggest you not stay at Waihi Beach Lodge in Waihi Beach, New Zealand.
