Waalwijk is a small city in the south of The Netherlands in Noord-Brabant. It has about 45.000 inhabitants. Of old, Waalwijk is a city of shoes. In the 19th century most of the population lived of working in the many shoefactories. Nowadays, shoes are produced elsewhere but Waalwijk is still the city with the most shoe trading companies in Europe.
Every year in September, 'the 80 van de Langstraat' starts and finishes in Waalwijk. It's a walk of 80 km in a part of Noord Brabant.
Tourists visit Waalwijk because it's very close to the themepark the Efteling and because of the national reserve the 'Loonse en Drunense duinen'.
