Vritomartis Hotel & Bungalows Crete Reviews
Naturist resort on Crete Dec 14, 2010
Vritomartis is the only official naturist resort on Crete. It's a fancy place with a pool in a nice garden, one white hotel building and several low-rise white bungalow buildings, 180 sleeps in total.
Vritomartis has its own little naturist beach and beach bar (Filaki) and two more non-catered 'beaches'. Now these beaches are small rocky, pebbly bays and even a bit dangerous when the sea is rough and the water is troubled. This was disappointing at first, but I spent some good days at the pool instead.
There is entertainment like waterpolo, excursions to surrounding villages in the mountains, hiking-trips to the Samaria and Imbross gorges, naturist boat trips and live music in the evenings. But it's a place that attracts people of 40+ of age, so nothing too wild. The activities leader, Irene from Madrid, is entertainment by herself, but in any case all the staff are very friendly indeed.
The restaurant is buffet-style, so no a la carte. But you can take the little shuttlebus for free and go to the lovely village of Chora Sfakion (5 minutes by bus, 20 minutes walk) to dine in one of the very nice taverns. These teverns are all located on the quay and overlook the Libian sea. Superb!
If you don't like the local rocky beaches and the pool, take the small ferry or watertaxi to the more comfortable although still pebbly Sweetwater Beach (10 minutes across the water), or take a taxi to Frangocastello's sandy beach (12km); they're both clothing-optional too.
Vritomartis is a classy and very friendly place for midlife naturist folks that want to take it easy.
