Cabin in the woods Jul 12, 2014
Vranum Bed & Breakfast, set in a restored farmhouse, is a very unique and interesting place to choose for your stay. You can most certainly get away here from all the city crowds and noises and simply indulge in a peaceful and quiet country atmosphere. The property grounds stretch out far enough to provide for a nice morning, or evening, walk without necessity of even leaving the property.
A small vineyard, where home wine is made, is also within the grounds of the property. It is not possible to stroll amongst the vines as the vineyard is fenced off and not accessible to public.
A gazebo, located in the side yard of the property, is available for guests use during the daytime and the evening. Perfect for a relaxing evening drink, and dinner, especially during the summer.
When we booked the place, we chose an option for a stay in a wooden cabin in the woody part of the property. The cabin was of a size of a small double room and was located few meters behind the main house between the trees. It was cute and unique idea, and although you had to walk back to the main building to use bathroom and kitchen, we decided to book it for the experience.
When we arrived, the owner took us to the cabin to show us our accommodation. When we got to it he said that we didn’t have to stay at the cabin if we didn’t want to as there was a room we can have instead. At the beginning we though he just wanted to sell us an upgrade to earn more money, but soon enough we realised that he was genuine and didn’t want any extra for staying in a ‘proper’ room. ‘It was a part of the booking to allow guests who booked the cabin to choose whether they wanted to stay there or swap it for a room’ he said. On this occasion, it was great to have this option since the days turned cold and rainy, so room accommodation versus cabin was a much better choice. So we decided on a room.
The replacement room was quite small, smaller than the actual cabin, but it had direct access to a shared kitchen and bathroom. The room itself was only furnished with 2 single beds and a chair and had very little space for luggage. Nonetheless, it was nice as it was situated in a farmhouse.
Normally, we would have had to share the bathroom and the kitchen with the cabin guests (if there were any) and another room, but since we were the only guests residing in the property, we had it all to ourselves.
The kitchen, with the diner and living area, was decorated in a rustic style with lots of homely touches. It was specious and well designed so at least 6 people could easily share this space. This was where our Danish breakfast was served the next day.
The bathroom was on a small size, but incorporated all the necessary facilities without compromising on comfort - a shower, a sink and a toilet were available. Even towels and soap were provided here. Furthermore, washing machine was available for guests without additional charges.
Breakfast is prepared and served, at the time agreed, by the owner of the farmhouse. Fresh bread, selection of meats and cheeses, tea/coffee, juice and yogurts were served for us precisely at the time agreed. Everything tasted delicious, especially the fresh bread. Perfect start to a new day.
Since the property is vast, there is no problem with parking which is offered on site and is very secure.
Free Wi-Fi works perfectly fine within the building itself. We never checked the outdoor range.
Cleanliness – the entire place was very clean and tidy so gets the highest score.
Overall experience – it is a really lovely place away from everyday rush and racket oozing harmony and charm; the owner is a very welcoming person who has no problem entertaining his guest with a good conversation; amazing place definitely worth the visit.
Price paid per room per night - €47 which is very good for Danish standards.
