Voorburg, a place that obtained city rights in 1828, lies on the outskirts of the government's seat The Hague and is part of the municipality 'Leidschendam-Voorburg'. As early as 2700 BC people lived here but its true beginnings date back to 47 AD when the Roman general Corbulo dug a canal between the rivers 'Maas' and 'Rijn'.

Due to its position near the political center of The Netherlands, a lot of the well-to-do class of the 16th, 17th and 18th century, built a country-house here.

Nowadays about 40,000 people live in Voorburg which is best described as a green and peaceful village. Voorburg has a lovely old center where many medieval buildings can be found as well as several restaurants, bars and cafés. There are a few museums, a church built in 1200 AD and two galleries.
