Vondelpark Jan 19, 2017
The most famous park in the Netherlands and the largest park in Amsterdam, Vondelpark welcomes 10 million visitors every year.

The 47 hectares (120 acres) park is located south of Leidseplein and is very near the Rijksmuseum.

Amsterdammers love this park as well as tourists and most days you will see people walking, jogging, roller blading or just lazing in the grass listening to music or people watching.

The Park was open in 1865 and names Nieuwe Park or New Park. In 1867 it was renamed Vondelpark when a statue of Dutch poet Joost Den Vondel was erected in the park.

The day we were there it was a beautiful sunny day and the park was packed with people.

The largest city, AMSTERDAM is also the capital of the Netherlands. A small fishing village in the late 12th century, Amsterdam became one of the most important ports in the world during the Dutch Golden Age (17th century). During that era, the city was the leading center for finance and diamonds,

Amsterdam's main attractions include its canals, The Rijksmuseum, the Van Gogh Museum, Amsterdam Museum, Anne Frank House and Vondelpark

Amsterdam is amazing. Love the canals, the boats on the canals, the unique architecture and the fact that it's centrum is completely walkable.

As we had a lay-over in Amsterdam, we thought we would take advantage of it and stay some extra days. It's been ages since Hans and I have been here, so I was quite looking forward to visiting here again.

We spent the whole day Wednesday, exploring and walking through the heart of Amsterdam. It's such a vibrant and exciting city.

Very nice park Oct 02, 2015
Vondelpark as a really nice park close to the Rijksmuseum. It was opened in 1865 and is the largest public park in Amsterdam. It was originally named Nieuwe Park but was renamed after playwright Joost van den Vondel.

There is an open air ampitheatre, statues, little ponds and restaurants to enjoy.

I wandered some of the paths and as it was a sunny day, found a nice spot on the grass to just sit down, relax and people watch.

It would be a very nice place to bring a picnic and hang out.

Great park Sep 27, 2010
Vondelpark is a wonderful park open to the public and located very near all the museums (such as the Van Gogh museum and Rijksmuseum).

Although I took just a quick look at this park, I think it was an amazing place to hang and would be even better in the summer. There are plenty of lush green areas to stroll around through and even relax, and various statues are dotted around the grounds. Apart from the people that were just strolling through, there were people walking their dogs here, riding their bikes through and bringing their children along for the afternoon. The park attracts all sorts of people, and is a nice retreat in such a central part of Amsterdam.

When you are done with the museums, it’s worth popping here just to relax and enjoy the fresh air and atmosphere.

Central park of Amsterdam with free concert Aug 29, 2010
Amsterdam is such a busy city especially when you are tired of having too many people, bikes and cars all day long. You might be fed up with seeing people in downtown of Amsterdam, or just don't like touristic feelings too much, then it's time to step in Vondelpark.

In summer, they do have good free concerts here and the quality is guranteed especially for classics and jazz.

A lot of dutch people go there and enjoy picnic when the whether is good, so be prepared to see lots of bikes in the green after the wonderful concerts. Free concerts accompany good sweets and coffee with relatively cheap price, and people bring picnic baskets.

You will also see a lot of people running and the park is just great to relax especially in early mornings of weekends. Very close to tram stations and you will never miss it.

free fun times in Amsterdam Jun 07, 2008
Vondelpark is beautiful, central and free! We spent a good hour there just hanging out, people watching, talking and appreciating the beauty of nature. (and sharing the odd joint). Vondelpark is a healthy break from coffee shops, cafes, tourist stores and the crowded streets of Amsterdam. Play at being a local and hang in the park or the attached bistro.
