Vondel Park is Amsterdam's most popular and largest park. It is named after Joost van den Vondel the city's most famous poet. The park originally opened in 1865 and it has sunk nearly 10 feet. The park is under constant renovation in order to keep parts from sinking.
Of note, in 1976 many wild parakeets (My favorite type of bird) were mistakenly released and still reside in the park. On sunny days, the park gets very busy with locals picnicking, flying kites, playing drums, smoking dope, or laying around on blankets. It's a beautiful park and definitely worth visiting just to see how the locals spend a weekend. Part of the Amsterdam and Brugge, Summer 2007 travel blog |

Keiko was the first one, and it wasn't the last time either :p From the Jordaan we walked to Leidse Plein and Vondel Park. Here we relaxed on the fields, ate some hotdogs and looked around at all the people. Some of us got bored and we decided to go to Museum Plein where there was a big stage of a popular radio station: 538. Some… Total madness in Amsterdam: Queens Day 2009 |

After that we went to the Vondel Park, walked to some famous buildings and churched, the Dam, the Rembrandtplein and Leidse Plein. For dinner we had pizza at Pino Pizzaria, close to the Leidse Plein. It was freezing cold outside so we stayed as long as possible in this… New Years Eve 2008 in Amsterdam. TB Meet up broke all records |
