Vondel Park is Amsterdam's most popular and largest park. It is named after Joost van den Vondel the city's most famous poet. The park originally opened in 1865 and it has sunk nearly 10 feet. The park is under constant renovation in order to keep parts from sinking.

Of note, in 1976 many wild parakeets (My favorite type of bird) were mistakenly released and still reside in the park.

On sunny days, the park gets very busy with locals picnicking, flying kites, playing drums, smoking dope, or laying around on blankets. It's a beautiful park and definitely worth visiting just to see how the locals spend a weekend.

Any even slightly sunny day, I'm there and have lunch/dinner laying in the grass. Great :D

I visited Vondelpark in Winter, and I think its still very pretty, when its grey. And especially relaxing to escape the tourist-crowds. And all the picturesque houses!

I loved Vondelpark, I wish I could have seen more of it and stayed in it longer. There will be more time on the next visit though. I'd like to sit down and paint some of the scenes that you snapped!
