The hotel is a few miles out of town and keeps you away from all of the touristy type stuff located on the main drag in town. The restaraunt is OK, but I wouldn't plan on too many meals there. As I remember, I could eat in town cheaper. The staff is friendly and accomdating. They have shuttles to help speed up getting from one end of the resort to another. I do recommend going into town and booking your excursions yourself at Desafio yourself. Rio Tropicales is good and accomodating. Not all of the people that they hotel works with for outside activities are the best.

Nice tree at the resort.

We had a wonderful time at the hotel. There are beautiful gardens of flowers, fruits, and sugarcane. Try the whole friend fish (tilapia). It was delicious. My boyfriend wanted to eat it every night. I had to make him try other items on the menu...LOL. There is a free breakfast buffet. After breakfast, we signed up for tours for that same day. The staff was friendly. Secure parking.

If you feel like spending a bit extra for a cool location and nice spot to hang out for the day by a sweet pool and a fun bar and restaurant, then this is a good choice. I am getting married here in April, and it is pretty damn fine. 10 minutes from La Fortuna, and they can hook you up with all of the crazy stuff to do out there in the jungle no problem.

Along the main road, up toward the volcano, there are a stretch of more upscale volcano-themed resorts and lodges. There's also a free swimming hole closer to town that I didn't go to, but I heard it's pretty cool. It's got a small cascade, but as I'm  a huge fan of waterfalls… La Fortuna Waterfall
