Vlissingen Vacation Guide
Vlissingen (Flushing in English) is an old dutch city that lies in the southwestern in The Netherlands in province Zeeland (sealand). after Middelburg is Vlissingen the biggest city of Zeeland. Vlissingen lies directly to the sea. Once it was a very much used port, now it is still operational, but not as big as Rotterdam. There is still a school for sailing.
The derivation of the name Vlissingen is unclear, though most scholars relate the name to the word fles (bottle) in one way or another.
The most interesting thing about Vlissingen is it's boulevard. It stratches along the beach, and has many places to eat and drink. At the end of the Boulevard is a Windorgel. It makes many sounds as the wind blows. A very good place to let the wind around you.
Vlissingen is very buisy in summer, and quiet in the winter. Languages spoken are dutch, english by most, and german by even more. Many german visit this town in their summer holidays.
Vlissingen is also known as the birthplace of Admiral Michiel de Ruyter.
