Vlieland is a small island part of a string of the so called Frisian islands. the islands stretch from the northern coast of the Netherlands all the way over the German coast up to Denmark.
in winter time the population of Vlieland is under a thousand inhabitants, in the summer it grows to aprox. ten times that figure.
Still it never feels overcrowded because only residents are allowed with cars on the island.
Like typical Dutch you will see hundreds of bicycles wich you can rent in the one vilage.
White sandy beaches, most sun hours of the Netherlands, Great night live and restaurants.
Its easy to find a lonely place with your lover in the sandy dunes... Fantastic viewes from those dunes over the North sea.
There are two camping sites ,one public the other for members of a nature protectionist org.(state owned).
The other one much larger and better situated just a couple of minutes from the beach. ,wich is rare in the Netherlands. Of course there are also hotels ranging from basic to luxury and you can find plenty of private holiday homes and B and B´s. book long in advance at the local tourist office ore V.V.V.as it is called in Dutch, web address; www.vlieland.net
You can reach this little paradise in two and a half ours by ferry from the harbourtown of Harlingen in the northern province of Friesland.
