Don't believe the pictures you see, your not getting it. May 27, 2008
We recently went to the Dominican Republic and stayed at the Viva Wyndham Tangerine. We have traveled extensively through the years and must admit that staying at your resort was a very unpleasant experience. Upon arrival the first thing that caught our attention was the entrance and reception area, not at all what one would expect at a so called mid to upper resort. After checking in (which seemed quite confusing for the clerk even though there was only about 10 check in documents for that day) we were taken to our room. I could not believe the site of the room. First, it was not at all as to what was described when I researched your facility to book a "superior room" which was 1 king size bed or 2 queen size beds. This room had 1 double bed, paint was peeling from the wall and the bed did not look freshly made and the room was not clean. I immediately called down to the reception desk only to be told that this was the "superior" room and was treated with an attitude of "matter of fact and to bad". After a run around I was told that the bell man would show us two other rooms. We left our luggage in the first room and went to see room #2. When we arrived at that room we had to wait at least 20 minutes for someone to find a key to open the door. Once that was accomplished we went inside and it was more like the description on the Internet, until we went out on the balcony and all we could see was a high wooden fence approximately 10' from the railing and green plastic something or other all over the grown (definitely not in the description of the room). Next came room #3, once again we stood in the hot air waiting and waiting for someone with a key. Finally inside this was the room as described. I said fine to this room and was told that this room would cost and additional $30. a night for our 7 night stay. I was outraged not only at the extra charge but for the fact that we had just spent almost 3 hours in the hot humid air trying to get booked in. I went down to the front desk with the "captain" Louis to speak with the manager. I received no satisfaction or even an apology for what we just went through trying to obtain the room that we had already booked and paid for well in advance. Another disappointing fact in your resort was the power went out at least 3 times a day (to the point after a few days you could pretty much calculate when it was going to go off). I will assume that they are trying to conserve energy and costs at the guests expense. We have never been to a resort where 75% of the people that we met were dissatisfied and disappointed in their choice of resort "The Viva Wyndham Tangerine". The pool is in great need of repair, another disappointment. The food was fair to poor but it was interesting to see how it was recycled from meal to meal. All the staff EXCEPT for management was very pleasant and helpful. The additional $210. that it cost to receive the room that we had booked is an outrage. It really is a shame that your manager does not know how to be diplomatic or have any compassion or concern for his guest.
