Vistadome Train from Ollantaytambo to Aguas Calientes
Vistadome Train from Ollantaytambo to Aguas Calientes Reviews
comfort and scenic Nov 22, 2008
The Vistadome train has bubble windows above the regular windows so you can look up and see the tops of the mountains lining the valley. The train to Aguas Calientes, gateway to Machu Picchu, follows the Rio Urubamba through the Sacred Valley. The scenery is spectacular and well worth the extra cost.
The seats are comfortable and the price includes a boxed lunch snack. We were served turkey sandwiches, cake and a beverage. The ride between Ollantaytambo and Aguas Calientes takes a couple of hours, mainly because the train stops several times to allow trains returning to Cusco to pass. The train leaves from Ollantaytambo several times a day, and also from Cusco. We had to pay extra for our large backpacks (based on weight) which were stored in a luggage space near the door.
The tickets vary in price depending on the time you depart. We took the last train of the afternoon, which was also the cheapest. Our tickest were about $50 US. We arrived in Aguas Calientes around 6 pm and enjoyed views of the forest, mountains, and rushing river throughout our journey. You can also take this train from Cusco to Aguas Calientes.
