If you're trying to fit in a visit to Spain from France in a short time period, you might want to concentrate on cities like Barcelona and San Sebastian. Both cities are somwhat close to the French border (with Barcelona closer to Nice, France and San Sebastian closer to Bordeaux). Barcelona is just one of those cities everyone really should see at least once in their lives - Las Ramblas and the Gaudi architecture are so unique to Barcelona. And San Sebastian is one of my favorite European cities; it has the most quaint old quarter, the friendliest people, and is drop dead gorgeous with it's beaches and shore line. There is an old bull ring in the old quarter and it is famous for having the most bars per square mile in the world; the pinxtos (Basque for tapas) and txacoli wine (specific to the Basque region) are amazing. Plus a lot of the San Sebastian residents speak many languages - obviously Spanish, but also the Basque language, French (they are less than a half hour from the border I think), and often English.
