Nice water place Feb 17, 2011
There are two reasons for visiting Vishram Ghat. The first is that the sight is a very nice spot to view the banks of the River Yamuna in Mathura, and it is possible to hitch rides here if you wish to see more the water. The second is that this is the spot where Lord Krishna allegedly took a rest after killing King Kansa in ancient India. Whichever reason you visit the spot for, it’s quite an unassuming little area. There aren’t any signs up that tell you about the boat rides or the historical and religious significance of the area.

This is a great spot to come by in the late afternoon or around sunset, when the views are rather nice. The monkeys that frequent the area are rather charming too, providing you‘re not loaded with fruit or snacks! More importantly, be careful about getting approached by holy men here. While they seem rather chatty and helpful, they’re always on the lookout to be your guide or prayer man in return for a fee!
