Visalia Tea Garden has lost its glow Jun 13, 2009
Visalia Tea Garden restaurant has been open in the same location since 1961. It is a small family owned business with only a few employees and this is their only location. It is a very good location on Main Street with plenty of other businesses and restaurants. We had not been in for many years until recently when we happened to be strolling past on a Friday evening after listening to an early jazz gig. There was only one other family eating when we went in and while we were there only two others came to pick up their take out orders. Granted it was a little later than most people eat here in this area. The menu is smaller than the other Chinese restaurants in town and the prices are slightly higher, but not enough to make us leave. We ordered the number two dinner, which consisted of Pork Chow Mein, Diced vegetables with sliced almonds, pineapple pork, egg foo young, fried rice, two fried shrimp, and deep fried won ton. We also asked for just hot tea to drink with the meal. This was the first time we had been charged for tea. The meal was served in a short amount of time and was fair portions, but we were disappointed in the noodles, which seemed clumpy and uncooked, and the egg foo young which seemed well under cooked. Altogether the meal was much less enjoyable than we would have liked. With the number of other much better Chinese restaurants in the close vicinity we will not be revisiting here.
