Vinum Populi Culver City Reviews
Aug 28, 2007
This wine bar in downtown culver city to rival bottle rock is pretty cool. basically, you get to taste wine all you want. you buy a "debit card" with a minimum of $10 and you can taste whatever wine you want in their selection. the prices vary depending on the wine. but you get to taste basically an ounce. unlike bottle rock, the chairs are a lot more comfortable and the lights are not too bright. unlike bottle rock, vinum does not serve food. but, vinum is connected to ugo (an italian place) so you can techinically order food. (but ugo's food is just average.)
vinum specializes in italian and spanish wines. although they do have a few french and i saw one from napa.
i think the best wine we tried was a french gewurztraminer. the rest of the wines we tried ranged from 'wow-that-cost-me-$5-per-ounce-and-it-tasted-like-crap' to 'that-was-just-ok'. but you really come here to just have fun, try something new you would not try otherwise, and enjoy the company you are with.
