Sultry Prohibition-Era Lounge May 07, 2014
This 1920s/1930s style cocktail lounge is new to Dublin. It is a unique occurrence in a city filled with bars of wooden furniture and Guinness taps galore. It is a breath of fresh air for people who enjoy trying different things and maybe attempting at going back in time to experience a bygone era.

It is located in Dublin's famous Temple Bar area, on Crown Alley, beside Eager Beaver. The door simply reads VCC, with a (slightly daunting) bouncer standing outside. As you can't see the bar at first glance you might think he was just standing there for no apparent reason! I would suggest making a booking because from what i gather they don't take spontaneous walk-ins.

The 'seatings' you can book for are between 7.30 - 10 and 10 - 12.30. You have 2.5 hours to drive as many cocktails as you want and then head off elsewhere.

The waitresses are very vigilant and attentive. You have as much time as is necessary to peruse the extensive cocktail menu and order what strikes your fancy. The cocktails cost €12 each with an additional 10% service charge on groups of more than 6. That might seem excessive but they are not faux-cocktails with a dash of alcohol, they are purely alcohol mixes with a dash of flavouring. They are extremely strong but quite small.

I went here for my birthday and was very impressed with the place. The atmospehere is so decadent and elegant with all the candles, mood-lighting and jazz music. I understood from calling to make my reservation that it was block seatings of 2.5 hours but i don't think this was visible on the website. I think they should have more information about the place on the website which would probably warn people and stop a lot of the negative reviews people post on Tripadvisor (because most of them are due to people not being aware of the system they have in place there). It is quite expensive so it's a place you wouldn't be going to every week but is nice as a once-off. It would also be great for a first date!
