A day in Camargue Dec 28, 2010
Camargue in the southern coast of France is a very thinly populated small town with a religious and historical background. It is about 68 kms from Nimes and the roads though winding is scenic.Horse farms which is also a tourist attraction dot the route on the outskirts of town. The town along the coast has become thick in tourist business with shops, restaurants and small lodges. The town square is small and centres from the church which is also small when compared to the other famous churches in France. In the church you witness the tomb of Mary mother of the cousin to Jesus and Sarah her servant who happened to journey into Camarague along the sisters of Lazarus and other early Christians from Jerusalem in a sail boat. The Roman tradition of an amphitheatre is epitomised with a new arena where bullfights are regularly conducted.A bird sanctuary where you get to see flamingos during summer is another attraction. The beach is clean and the pier is lined with luxury yachts during weekends.Camargue is a quite place where you can peacefully and leisurely spend a day or two.
Camargue et Provence, the old town…
The town and the yachts in the bac…
The rocks near the pier.
