Vinoteque Culver City Reviews
real loud wine bar in a quiet neighborhood Apr 25, 2008
From the owners of bottle rock in downtown culver city, this wine bar offers up loud live music in a quiet neighborhood (although it is located next to an establishment called "golden buns.") surprisingly, the bar is sound proof that one could not hear anything just outside the door. be aware that the servers will pass an envelope to tip the band.
the menu was limited. the most substantive dish i found on the menu was a grilled lamb burger (which i did not try). otherwise, everything was more like light fare such as dates stuffed with prosciutto, some cheeses, etc.
the great thing i liked about the menu was that they suggested wine pairings for each tapa. i had the marcona almonds, peppadew spears (a veggie and sausage on top), and a pepper stuffed with cheese. they were actually pretty good munchies that went well with my shingleback sparkling shiraz.
d had a chilean aymura carmenere and the ghost zin and claims that the latter was better.
for dessert, we each had a glass of sherry with the hazelnut torte. the torte was not too sweet, which was great.
the service was friendly although at some point, i felt like she was trying to get rid of us by taking away our food when we were still working on it, and giving us the bill early and asking whether she could take it. strange, given that there was no one waiting for our tables...
as much as this was an enjoyable outing in an enjoyable space, i might just stick with the bars/wine bars in downtown culver city.
