Nothing beats a great trip to the wineries - 50+ wineries, that is!!
A few miles east of Niagara Falls, this vast region is best known for it's large array of wineries. There are approximately 50 wineries throughout the area. We were able to hit 3 of them, close in proximity, before continuing to the falls. Prices were fair, tastings were free (except for one, which was more elegant and upscale; and even so, the cost of tasting each wine depended on the bottle which could range between $.50 and $1 CDN).
First visit was to Maleta Estate where I purchased a bottle of Shiraz, which is becoming scarce, as they can not grow the grapes for this rich red much longer, if at all. Coyote's Run had the best wine jelly. I came out with 2 jars of the sangria flavor, one of about 5 or 6 different flavors. Finally, Chateau de Charmes was an elegant mansion-type property, with a nice patio in the back yard to enjoy lunch or wine with the vineyards right behind you. This one charged for the tastings, but some of their wines were out of this world and worth the price.
