Vinland Motel: perfect for a camp break in iceland Oct 05, 2010
Vinland gisting (motel) is located in east iceland in the small town of egilsstaðir. It is a perfect break if you are tenting/roadtripping/camping around iceland, whether you came from the north or from the south.
the motel looks odd and doenst look warm in winter - because of the aluminum facade - but its only a design - inside it is warm and cozy.
the bed is ok - not too soft and not too hard - perfect for the back after a long journey. The toilet and shower is the best asset of the motel. It's clean and big and the water doenst reak of sulfur which is common in iceland.
the hotel is located a bit in the outskirts of the city but with a town of only 2000 population, the "commercial part" of the town is walkable for only 15-20 mins.
the manager of the hotel is very friendly and accomodating with always a smile on his face.
the basic charge is around 30 euros a night, but it depends on the season and how you book early.
i definitely recommend vinland gisting whoever wants to travel around iceland to take ab reak!

Vinland hotel is more like a motel. Six self contained rooms in one block. Three or four beds per room, nice bathroom, tea and coffee, waterboiler, microwave and hair dryer.
I got a group rate booking. Definitely worth the price.
Very clean. Cheaper price when you bring your own sleepingbag and pillow. Towels provided.
Friendly and helpful owner.
At the moment he is building a large wooden tipi. In the near future that will be accommodation for guests aswell. It's not finished yet, but it will be a fun way to experience sleeping in a tipi.
The motel is just outside town. A two minute drive to the internet cafe in the local community centre, shops are only four minutes away. This places was the cheapest option and one of the few places open in the low season.
I would definitely book here again.
