Vinca Vacation Guide
Vinča is the name of a large archeological find, located on the Danube River. The Vinča culture was an early culture of Europe; between the 6th and the 3rd millennium BC. It was a metropolis with a flourishing culture. Vinča houses had stoves and special holes specifically for rubbish, and the dead were buried in cemeteries. The ceramic, gray or black, is polished and carved with decorative incisions or in rare cases, painted.
The Vinča signs, also known as the Vinča alphabet, are a set of symbols. The nature and purpose of the symbols is a mystery.
Vinča was discovered in 1908 by an archaeological team led by Miloje M. Vasić. Modern excavations were begun at Vinča under the auspices of the Serbian Academy of Sciences in 1978.
