Small villa style hotel in Venice Lido Jun 28, 1998
Venice can be a bit on the expensive side and finding a decent place for a good price can be problematic especially in peak season. Some cheaper options with easy availability can be found in Lido (Lido di Venezia), an 11 km long sandbar separating Laguna Veneta from the Adriatic Sea. It's a short 10-12 minute ride to San Marco Piazza and Vaporetto's run very regularly between Venice and Lido, and 24 hrs a day, which is very convenient. The hotel I stayed in was really quite average, but Lido itself was nice, and worth a visit in itself even if you don't stay in a hotel here.

I stayed at the Villa Tiziana during my stay in Venice and it's a small hotel about 10 minutes walk to the vaporetto stop. Nothing really spectacular here, but the price was decent and the room clean enough, though not particularly decorated well. The only problem I had during my stay was their charge card system was not working, so I had to get enough cash together for my stay. There was just one guy running the place, but he was nice enough, helpful, and very accommodating to my needs and requests.

Lido is actually a very pleasant place in itself, with long stretches of beach and inland streets that take you back in time to the 19th century. Really quite a pleasant and peaceful place to walk around. The famous historic Hotel de Baines is here (which Thomas Mann wrote about in his novellete 'A Death in Venice) and the Venice Film Festival is held here. Although Murano is most famous for glass blowing, this can be experienced in Lido as well. There is a large Casino to enjoy too and a variety of outdoor activities such as golf, horseback riding, sailing, surfing, water skiing, diving, tennis, archery. Lido is quite a place and worth seeing, so I was pleased I stayed here and was a good place to relax after touring Venice for the day.

It's worth a trip over just for a stroll or walk on the beach. Very much a time capsule of 19th century life.

Wife took the kids to the beach on Lido while we were there and they liked it.

Villa Tiziana Hotel Overview

The Villa Tiziana Hotel is situated in Venice Lido, in a pretty residential area, only 5 minutes journey by bus from the pier terminal from which you can get a water bus connection to anywhere in Venice or to the airport or to Mestre.

This is a typical local villa converted in a 16 rooms run family hotel. Painted yellow with green shutters and surrounded by a small garden. The lobby itself is small, but it leads straight to the breakfast room, which is used as a social common area during the day.

Pretty hotel very professionally managed by husband and wife. The beautiful golden sand beach of the Lido is only a short walk. The hotel is also very close to the Congress centre.

The rooms are furnished in a simple but elegant style and they have all modern comforts expected of a hotel of this category. Rooms and bathrooms are in good condition.

There is a cosy breakfast room where a breakfast buffet is served.
