Villa Serenity Canggu Reviews
Nov 19, 2011
Villa Serenity is in Canggu, near Echo Beach, and lives up to the name. The beach is within sight of the hotel and nearly empty in the early day, only gradually filling up throughout the day and mostly with local people coming to fish, splash around in the water, and watch the sunset. The waves are apparently perfect for beginning to intermediate surfers (though I can't testify to that since I don't surf myself), and there are lessons available through the hotel. They've also got all kinds of other tours advertised, from river rafting to diving. There are also daily yoga classes here in the morning, and the occasional afternoon Zumba class.
I stayed in the cheapest room, a bamboo bungalo, for just shy of $20 a night. Though it's comfortable and clean, with a safe and much-needed mosquito net, for the most I've paid for any accomodation so far during my trip I would've liked to get more. Bali is definitely generally more expensive than Thailand, but I'm moving to another hostel tonight where I'm paying slightly more than half the cost of this place so cheaper accomodation is available. What attracted me about this place was that you can book a room for 1, whereas through hostelbooker for most hotels it will show you the price per person but you have to book for 2 or 4 or 6, etc since the rooms are all doubles. There's a clean shared bathroom with only cold water, and apparently a pool around here somewhere, though I haven't seen it.
If you're looking for quiet and relaxation, this is a good place to get away for a few days. Be prepared, though, to not have many options in terms of eating and shopping choices as there's not much around here. The closest shop is about a 20 minute walk away, so you pretty much have to rely on the hotel for food and drink. For example, the hotel kitchen is closed on Sunday nights, meaning I got no dinner last night at all because I didn't know until after sunset and didn't want to walk so far away in the dark. If you know what you're getting into, though, this is a nice place and I'd generally recommend it!
