One of the best Hostels in Nice Apr 19, 2012
First of all the "View" It sits on a hill overlooking Nice. An amazing view of the Bay of Angels. Very friendly. Away from all tourist traps. Free breakfast (just the basics). It was chosen to be one of the best 10 hostels in the world recently. The only negative aspect of the hostel is that it is far from the city center and does not have easy access to public transportation. There is a bus service but it took me one hour to figure out the system.I recommend this place highly.

Hidden Gem in the hills of Nice May 26, 2011
This villa is more than your usual hostel - having won many awards thus so far - it is a place for good food, cheap beer and meeting friendly people. Set in the hills of north Nice in beautiful gardens - in which you can sit and while away the time amongst greenery and a waterfall - it offers a different menu daily, breakfast included with free tea, coffee and internet - wif or their own PCs. The staff are friendly and the premises fairly clean for a "hostel". They also offer trips out - for example sailing in St Tropez (which I will sadly miss) and other such adventures. They run a mini bus to central nice every 30 minutes as they are out in the sticks although I drove and was able to park my car there. Ive experienced plush 5* hotels and 2* dives and I'd say this hostel with its great atmosphere, setting and all on offer should be tried not only by those on a budget but those seeking to meet new pals.

best amenities ever, bad location Apr 03, 2011
This place is about a 15 minute tram ride from the train station. Plan accordingly when you need to catch a train.

The nice part: They have a bus to pick you up and drop you off. The bad part: If you have an early morning train and the bus you were relying on is late, you will have a panicked run to the station.

Amenities: Could not be better. Loved it! For 5 euro they will wash all of your laundry overnight and have it for pick up the next morning. They have all sorts of activities package with pick up and drop off and the hostel.

I went on a 5 hour canyoning excursion and did not have to bring anything but myself and a swim suit. 100% worth is although the guy spoke zero english.

The hostel itself has a great full service restaurant with a wonderful bar and cheap drinks. Everybody staying here, parties here at night (because nobody wants to walk down the epic hill to party in town). It's run by native English speakers which makes life so much easier if you speak zero French.

Even with the goofy location, I would definitely stay here again.

Great hostel! They had computers for use and free wifi. Downstairs was a bar with drink specials and free breakfast. Good place to meet and hang out.

Downside: They are on top of a pretty steep hill! they have a van that picks you up, but its not 24/7. No air con on the dorm I stayed in, it was bloody hot. I would not recommend you let them do the laundry, it took forever and I somehow gained strange clothing and lost some of my own.

Fair priced accomodation plus fun Apr 07, 2011
In Villa Saint-Exupéry you stay a bit out of the centre of Nice in a friendly hostel with a big communal kitchen, Pizza and wine for good prices, a cute garden and a mostly english speaking and friendly team.

You find dorms for up to 14 guests, but for the comfier night I advise you to take the littler dorm with up to 5 people..

Take the free shuttle to the next tram stop and choose from the wide offer of acivities that can be arranged on site.

5/5 for Villa Saint-Exupéry!

excellent for backpackers and finding other travelers Apr 15, 2011
Very friendly staff and lots of great guests. It's very far away from the beach but they will drive you to the bus stop, which is on the main avenue that will connect you to the main area and beach by tram. Laundry service was a plus and they have many day trip itineraries already organized (bus schedules included). Definitely recommended.

Fantastic services and tour packages offered. But it is very far from the beach, if that's important to you. I would stay here again.

an interesting mix of ideas that left me with mixed feelings Jun 02, 2009
This was such a mixed bag of ideas that would have easily earned a maximum rating if the location were simply cheaper. We paid 76 euros for a basic room with a bunk bed, without A/C, TV, lockbox and in a location significantly north of the city. That's way overpriced!

But that's my only point of contention - the rest is all good.

1/ Interesting mix of a hostel/hotel and of new/old. The site used to be a monastery some time ago and most of the old monk cells have been transformed to these tiny, basic rooms. But the main building now houses a huge dining hall and a lounge with a ton of couches and tables. Interior balcony has modern PCs all along one of the walls and WiFi is accessible from almost anywhere.

2/ The entire operation is handled by students hired temporarily by the owner of the Villa and it feels well organized. They're a travel-loving folk and know the area pretty well. They can assist with planning the day, with all kinds of questions, with laundry, and just about anything else. However, by the same token, they are students, and sometimes handle things inefficiently, sometimes aren't there and sometimes just don't seem to care much.

3/ Travel materials - there's plenty of binders around with info on the area, with flyers of local businesses and places to see, and there are maps of the area, with ideas on what to do given X number of days, bus schedules, etc.

4/ Kitchen/bar - both open daily, kitchen is mostly "self serve", i.e. clean after yourself and drop the silverware/dishes in detergent. Staff does the actual dishwashing. Bar carries different kinds of alcohols and a lot of local beer - prices are very good. There's also always coffee!!! and fresh brownies. Inexpensive dinners are available everyday and there's pizza past 10pm.

5/ Location - outright crappy. Must take the tram and then wait for the shuttle. At night, we had to a) wait for the tram downtown Nice b) sit on the tram for 15-20 mins (and that's from the tramstop next to the train station, not old Nice) and then wait almost 40 mins for the shuttle to arrive. Huge waste of time. However, next morning we caught a shuttle within 10 minutes or so and connected with a tram within 2-3 minutes, arriving in Old Nice about 25 mins later. So your mileage may vary... Anyway, this was the weakest point.

This was one of the best places we stayed in Europe. Its pretty far from the city center, but still easy to get to. You take a bus from the main train station to the last stop and then there is a pay phone that you can use to call the hostel(for free) and then they come to the bus stop and pick you up(for free). Its a pretty awesome system.

The hostel itself is really nice. The staff were really nice, there is free internet access on a ton of computers. The room we stayed in was being renovated when we stayed in it, but it was still good. It was nice and cool at night because it was in the basement, called 'The Dungeon' apparently. The breakfast is awesome, there is over 10 different kinds of cereal, toast, juice and coffee. Great breakfast. They offer cheap alcohol too, a can of beer for only 1 euro. They have cheap, delicious dinner specials every night too. The common room area/internet area/bar/restaurant is a lot of fun. I would highly recommend anyone going to Nice to stay here!
beer and cards...great combination.

This was an amazing hostel. It has everything you would ever ask for - knowledgable and helpful employees, free towels, free beach blankets, maps to all the great locations, free internet, fun people, and the list goes on and on. They even pick you up from the train station when you arrive in Nice and will drop you off when you leave. Also if you're trying to save money on food there is a market nearby and they allow you to use their kitchen to store and cook your food. However, they also offer great dishes everyday for you to enjoy!

I would definitely take advantage of their bar. Drinks are very cheap and you don't even have to go into town to have a good time. The reason why I loved my Nice experience so much was because of this hostel - the experience would not have been the same if I had stayed somewhere else.

One more tip - if you're booking online and it says they're full, try calling them. They'll usually find some way to fit you in. They're amazing!
