Villa Pacande Alajuela Reviews
Quaint, quiet, cozy little gem. Alajuela's hidden secret. Feb 18, 2012
I am sure there are other hidden gems in Alajuela, but this one is so very unknown. You have to stay here if you are inclined to get away from the city for a night or two. This hotel property is owned by the same folks that own Hotel Pacande.
Villa Pacande is a very nice, semi-luxurious stay. It is semi-luxurious in the sense that it is a major upgrade compared to many places in Costa Rica. If this review is/was helpful, please vote it as so.
Value: You get a wonderful, quiet place to stay for about $50 per night. Breakfast is included. As with typical Costa Rican fare, gallo pinto, with fresh fruit is served.
Location: The location, for me at least, was the attractive part of this property. They are located about 3.5 kilometers outside of Alajuela, on the way to Volcan Poas. The location is very quiet, almost in the "countryside". It is nowhere near the countryside, just outside of town a little bit. As with most private places in Costa Rica, the property is located behind a locked fence, which is nice to secure your vehicle if you have a rental car. If you are missing the noise of the city, then this isn't the place for you.
Cleanliness: The rooms are very clean and spacious for the price. Keep in mind that you are in Costa Rica, where it is very humid and bugs are attracted inside year-round. I recommend that you keep your luggage up off the floor.
Amenities: There aren't many amenities included at this locale. Food is served each morning. For me, one of the best features was the fenced-in property. I was able to park my rental vehicle without any worries. However, if you are looking to leave the property on a late-night munchie run, you might want to change your mind. The host(s) would have to let you out of the property and then let you back in; c'mon, you don't want to be a nuisance to them, now do you?
Bed: Simple. All rooms come with either double queen-size or single king-size beds. This make for great travels with children or a not-so-close companion. All rooms are suites, by Costa Rican standards.
Bathroom: Simple. Clean. Hot water.
Service: The service is excellent, especially for the price. You don't really get any more "better" service here, but you do get larger rooms, two beds, an extremely quiet locale, and very home-like feeling.
I would recommend that you arrive early, during sunlight hours. Remember, the sun sets earlier and ticos are usually off the street not too long after sunset. You will definitely love this place. If you are looking for a quiet place to stay, then I easily recommend Villa Pacande. If you stay here, you really don't get a good "feel" for the city and aren't in walking distance to corner markets. I would recommend this location if you are making it your last night in town or if you want some general peace and quiet and want to use it as a jumping off point before you head out your excursions.
Anyway it goes, Villa Pacande is a great stay for the price. I highly recommend it.
