Villa Nieuwmarkt Amsterdam Reviews
Cozy place Sep 21, 2015
We really needed to sit down to have a drink and a bite to eat after our pleasant stroll at Haarlemmerdijk, Brouwersgracht and the rather hastily passage of Nieuwendijk, Damrak and "de Wallen". At Nieuwmarkt we looked for a cafe or bar to have a coffee, and found this place appealing. Outside the terrace was rather full of people, but inside there was plenty of room.
A friendly girl was in charge of the bar, and quickly got us our drinks. It seems something was wrong with the cola machine, she brought us the drink but noticed the light color. The container needed to be changed which she was unable to at that moment, so she offered us another drink.
And soon she brought us my plate with a tunasalad sandwich.
This is a nice and easy going place, with a cat who belongs to the house, and familiar clièntele and delivery people, and ofcourse - you can expect them in this area - tourists as well. The cafe room looks pleasant and when I looked around I noticed quite a few beerpumps, all with different brands on it. On my question the girl answered it were indeed 6 different beers on draft, 4 by Dutch breweries (Texel, Jopen, Zatte by 't IJ, and ofcourse the ordinary Heineken), and 2 from Belgium (Affligem and La Chouffe). However the Affligem would be replaced by another, but she could not tell which one that would be.
Overall impression: A nice cafe at a nice location. Food and drinks are good but not special, pretty interior, friendly staff.
