Villa Maya Hotel

Hotel Villa Maya is about 6 miles outside of Flores, on the road to Tikal. It is located on a secluded area of Lake Peten Itza called Laguna Petenchel. Hotel Villa Maya is a modern style building with more than 80 double rooms with private bathrooms, ceiling fans, hot water 24/7 and wonderful views of the lake. There are two great swimming pools, three tennis courts, an above average patio restaurant, kayak rentals and bike rentals. There are several crocodiles in the lagoon, I would limit my swimming to the hotel pool. The hotel property is large and well landscaped. They have provide a number of foot-paths for you to enjoy the lush property and the lagoon. This hotels target market are the bus tours. I was forced to stay here on my last visit to Tikal by my travel partner. I had my fill of obnoxious tourists within the first few hours of my stay. The facility is very nice and the restaurant had great food and friendly service. I don't drive 7,000 miles to hang out with a bunch of rude, whining, spoiled, English speaking tourists.
