Villa Angela Heritage Home - Vigan, Ilocos Sur Jun 07, 2008
I absolutely fell in love with this place the minute I entered. An authentic Spanish colonial house built on 2k sqm of land, Villa Angela has been in the family since its construction in the mid 1800s and only in recent years has the place been transformed into a bed and breakfast. Antique fittings that date back 100 years still furnish the house together with various collections of china, family portraits, photographs, and various decor, all keeping the old world feel.
The rooms are spacious and clean. I stayed in the Hijos room - a room good for four, which had its own toilet and bath exclusively assigned to it. Not en suite, however, it's located on the other side of room's expansive balcony and has hot running water.
Villa Angela serves free Vigan breakfast, which can be had in the kitchen, the dining room or in the garden out front.
It's also open to large groups, with a dormitory on the ground floor. Wedding receptions, seminars, parties and other special events may also be booked here.
When in Vigan, come stay at this elegant and charming heritage house. Tom Cruise did, why shouldn't you?

Just like being in your own ancestral home for an affordable price Jun 29, 2008
Villa Angela Heritage House is an ancestral Filipino-Spanish style house during the Spanish era. Everything about it -- the house itself, the back yard and the staff, will make you feel like you are just in your own vacation home.
A room with 3 beds costs 2400 per night which includes breakfast - this has its own private bathroom with heater. There is also another room with 2 single beds for 1000 pesos per night and includes breakfast but the bathroom is located outside the room but is still exclusive for the use of the persons renting this room. Then there are some dorm type rooms as well on the ground floor.
We took the 2400 pesos room with 3 beds. It is very nice: the beds are are made of those antique Spanish style bed frames complete with mosquito nets although no worries, there are no mosquitos at all as the room is airconditioned. The bathroom is also really clean and nice. There is water heater on the shower.
You can either have a Filipino breakfast or Continental breakfast. We had the continental breakfast: bread, butter, jam, pineapples, orange juice and coffee. I can say that this is the best Continental breakfast I've had, their bread is really good and it is very nice to have it on this long antique dining table.
Just a couple of tips:
1) The reception area is very discreet. Currently it is located at the ground floor behind the stairs but there were no signs at all to indicate it so you may get misled going upstairs.
2) They lock the gates at night when they think all the guests are already inside the place but not really a big hassle since you can just ring the doorbell.

Villa Angela - old style villa Jul 08, 2008
In the old town of Vigan you find an old house call Villa Angela. It used to be the family home of a wealthy family. The house is still owned by the family but they have moved away to Manila and rent out the house instead. The house is an old traditional house for the area in the famous Spanish Asian mix you will find only in Vigan and nowhere else in the world.
The house is in an old garden and you go up to the house to go in you will soon find yourself in a giant dinning hall with two big tables with about a dozen chairs around each one. This is the place where you will have your breakfast in the morning while you can look at the big hall. Next to the dinning hall is a big living area with the old furniture in the room. Which give you a unique opportunity to see how the rich used to live in this part of the country.
There are a total of 6 rooms for rent which are all equipped with bit beds and aircon. The cheap room got a bathroom outside but it is not really shared given it is only for the use of this room - the other rooms got a bathroom inside the room.
In the morning you can choose between a regular European/American style breakfast and a Pilipino style breakfast with lots of rice.
