Vila Micika Dubrovnik Reviews
Nice and cheap place to stay Nov 19, 2011
Located in the Lapad area of Dubrovnik, the Vila Micika is both a hostel and a sobe, which is Croatian for private rooms. This review will be more about the private room, since that was where I stayed.
Getting there can be tricky, particularly if you try to get there by public transportation. Coming from the main bus station, you have to take one of the local buses towards Old Town, and get off along the way, preferably at a stop across from a gas station, on a one-way street to Old Town. Then go through the gas station to the other side (traffic coming from Old Town), and get on Bus #6 to get to the Lapad neighborhood. Then you may have to ask around for the Tommy Supermarket, as the hostel is located near both of them. It is on the street, perpendicular with the supermarket lot. Hopefully these directions made some sense, as the booking site had directions that were confusing. In my case, I had a local help me find my way.
There is an outside sign, so it’s not too hard to find. If you arrive late during the offseason, definitely let the staff know ahead of time.
The rooms are basic, but nice enough for an enjoyable stay. The bathroom is a little rundown and cramped, as well as the shower itself, but okay overall. The staff is very nice and even allowed me to use their computer for free. And very helpful with info on getting around Dubrovnik.
The hallways in the private rooms building, have a microwave and a cabinet with silverware to use. Only thing is you can never be sure how clean the silverware is.
The only drawback is not being near Old Town. And while it can be a pain to get to and from it, the Lapad area is a nice and quiet. In addition to a supermarket being nearby, there is a pharmacy and some restaurants as well.
Overall, a nice place to stay, at reasonable prices. But this was during the offseason, and may be different during the busy season.
